FOODPICKER: About
FOODPICKER® is a program designed to help people with diabetes make better food choices.
Our hope is that people consider the foods they consume and how they can burn them off with exercise for good health.
We embrace the guidelines put forth by the American Diabetes Association as well as the American Dietetic & American Heart Associations.
This website is completely free and brought to you by volunteers in the health care field.
How it Works:
Pick a food from 1 of 31 categories (left side of website).
FOODPICKER will give a diabetes friendly recommendation including "More Often," "In Moderation," or "Less Often."
It will also provide a nutrition analysis and offer tips regarding preparation, healthier alternatives, carbohydrate choices and calorie expenditure.
Diabetes Q&A:
Several diabetes professionals have volunteered their time answering questions received through this website. Visit the Contributors link to learn more about
these people.
Our Goals:
- Greatly reduce Diabetes onset and complications
- Become the World's largest and most credible nutrition website
- Increase public awareness of the R.D. (Registered Dietitian) credential & advance the field of Dietetics
History:
FOODPICKER was created several years ago by Christine Carlson, Registered Dietitian & Certified Diabetes Educator.
Christine got the idea after her dad was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
Christine's grandfather also had diabetes. Research indicates family history of diabetes increases risk.
